Our Team

Dr. Witschey is Professor of Anthropology and Science Education at Longwood University in Virginia where he teaches Archaeology and Geographic Information Systems. He is the Director Emeritus of the Science Museum of Virginia, a multi-site state agency network of science centers. During his 15-year tenure as the second Director of the Museum, Dr. Witschey served four Governors of Virginia and raised more than $100 million for the institution. Dr. Witschey publishes a biweekly science column for the Richmond Times-Dispatch, now in its 12th year. A past President of the Virginia Academy of Science and the international Association of Science-Technology Centers, he currently serves as a site visit reviewer and team chair for museum accreditation by the American Association of Museums. In 2006-2007 he served as Leader-in-Residence for the Jepson Leadership School of the University of Richmond. He previously served as Professor of Life Sciences at Virginia Commonwealth University; in 2003 he was named Virginia Biotechnology Educator of the year and has received distinguished teaching awards from Virginia Commonwealth University and Tulane University. In addition, Dr. Witschey is past president of a major computer services business (1,250 employees) that he co-founded and headed for 15 years. Dr. Witschey holds a B.A. in Physics from Princeton University; an M.B.A. in Operations Research from the University of Virginia; and an M.A. and Ph.D. in Anthropology, with a specialty in Maya archaeology, from Tulane University.
